Composer Paul Haslinger likes working with short motives, or cells, rather than themes. Characters and situations don't get leitmotives but signature sounds. In my "solo" work, I usually gravitate toward themes and melodies, so this project was an interesting opportunity for me to work within strict limitations. Very often in this movie, music had to be creepy in a subtle way, much like sound effects (such as weird room tones or unusual noises for common objects).
You won't come out of the theater humming this score. But it might still be crawling under your skin.
