Stuart Robertson, one of the choir members who performed the premiere of Consolatio, commissioned this string quartet as an anniversary gift to his wife of 30 years, Barbara.  He asked me to incorporate some thematic elements from Consolatio.  I was happy to write a more intimate companion to the often bombastic cantata.

This work was also performed several times by the Coriolan Quartet in France.  Many thanks to Florent Gay for performing and perfecting this piece with his wonderful quartet!
