This documentary tells the story of the Leffew Family and their YouTube channel, which they started in order to educate people about the simple fact that they are a loving family deserving of the same rights that other families are able to enjoy under the law.  Director Cassie Jaye exposes the scare tactics and bigoted talking points which were responsible for passing Proposition 8 in California, which, for the first time in U.S. history, took rights away from a class of citizens.

Liam Neeson plays a Dr. Martin Harris, a professor who is about to give an important lecture in Berlin when a car accident changes his life, and apparently his identity, too.  Director Jaume Collet-Serra keeps the action going and the suspense high as we uncover the true reasons for Martin’s trip, and the mystery as to why his own wife doesn’t seem to recognize him.

Working on this project was challenging, but in a good way.  Composer John Ottman made it very clear from the beginning that any action music clichés were to be avoided.  So, the usual drum loops had to go, and needed to be replaced with something more sophisticated.  This meant some programming and manipulation of sounds.  Electronics play an important part, although many orchestral elements were recorded for this score.

The movie opened #1 at the U.S. box office.

Varèse Sarabande released an album of this score.
